This band of brothers plays at the Hollywood Farmer’s market between 12 and 1. The have Trombone/Drum/Trumpet players, and one guy has those foot pads to be able to do percussion with his foot. And they dress like it’s the 20s or ’30s. Check them out. You will be entertained! They play in between Selma and Sunset on Ivar, across from Space 15 Twenty where they have that great Architecture Bookstore

This is what it says on their site:
In 1989, in the encroaching mountains of Serbia or Tennessee, an idea occurred between two brothers; or rather, a quixotic dream: to build a bridge from Turkey to Europe. This bridge would be lined with tapestries and populated by a thousand great white birds. Soaring over the Mediterranean sea, as it were, commuters would be flanked by low growing patches of colorful flora. The bridge would be a swath of color and light, a paintbrush stroke between continents, between cultures, between civilizations. On each independence day of each independent country, elaborate displays of fireworks would erupt from the bridge and the Christmas lights would crawl across the bridge like festive veins of ivy on the eves of all the world’s favorite holidays.
The brothers were pleased by their idea, and so they set off to play music in the streets, that they may raise the funds (approximately $85 billion would do) from the hard-earned pockets and accounts of the lives they one day hope to improve.

i love her country twang… March 9, 2009
I went to amoeba this weekend to get the new Neko Case album Middle Cyclone and was reminded again that she is in fact classified as country. So be it. I happen to like some country drawl, so slow and hypnotic that you feel in fact, it is true that a TORNADO COULD love you. “Spider webs stuck in my lashes”….This is Neko Case, and I am enamored. I’m stoked and choked over it all.
I love the early wind music box chimes that begins the song “The Next Time You Say Forever.” And, don’t be alarmed by the bonus track if it brings you to the cold chill of sleeping in a tent outside in the woods. The chirp of the crickets are just coming from your player.
Her last album, “Fox Confessor Brings the Flood” is still my go to sleepy time music.

Pictures are Worth 1000 Words July 23, 2007
In no particular order:
Star Themed Bathrooms are always nice:
None other than a tile mosaic homage to Cher in the bathroom at Vinyl on 50th street.
Brazilian Girls and their 40 piece orchaestra at Central Park’s Summerstage.
Peace made out of simple objects like bananas. John Lennon Memorial near Strawberry Fields.
Coney Island
I guess hotdogs and wet t-shirt contests are a match made in heaven…
but the true match made in heaven is Matt and Kim:
people actually crowdsurfed
and Lavendar Diamond…
All at Sirens Festival in Coney Island
the band before them…lavender diamond.
Matt and Kim July 22, 2007
I saw this band at the Stillwell St Stage of Sirens and they are amazing. So stripped down and simple, but they pack a gazillion tons of energy into their drum and keyboard dance smashing!
Rehab February 21, 2007
Try to make be go to REHAB, I said: No, No, No……![]()
“Say No to Rehab,” as Amy Winehouse sings in her uber-sexy gravelly R&B voice. Is Winehouse, herself a Wine, a wino, a whiner, a wine-taster? These are important questions, and inquiring minds want to know. I don’t want to go to Rehab, and I’m not sure Count Britney the Spearess does either. I don’t care. I like Ms. Winehouse’s music. And I have now heard it on KEXP and on XM’s indie-rock selects.
http://www.amywinehouse.co.uk/
The first single released from the album on October 23, 2006 was the Mark Ronson-produced “Rehab“, a song about her past refusal to attend an alcohol rehabilitation centre after it was encouraged by her management company. She left the management company after this incident. On October 22, 2006, based solely on download sales, it entered the UK Singles Chart at #19 and when the CD single was released the following week, it climbed to #7. On 14 January 2007, the album rose one spot from #2 to reach the #1 position on the UK Album Chart.
Factoids:
Winehouse has a number of “old skool” tattoos of naked women on her body. When asked about them, she was quoted as saying “I like pin-up girls. I’m more of a boy than a girl. I’m not a lesbian, though — not before a sambuca anyway.”
My saturday ohhm… February 10, 2007
Today I promised myself…I HAVE to write. Today is devoted to writing. I will allow myself to eat and go to the gym, and that’s it. I am listening to the Athens, Georgia band “Of Montreal.” I love it. I like the line in this song called “A Sentence Of Sorts In Kongsvinger” about spending the entire winter with their nose buried in a book while trying to restructure their character.” I can relate. MUST WRITE…mantra for the day…
