It was a rainy Sunday. We found some great deals, and my friend even got two paintings that are worth over $1000 when in mint condition. (She got them for $25 each.) Antique Road Show, here we come!

They were asking for $50 which I think is a bit much to pay for nostalgia...

Calder: 1930

I went to see the Vanity Fair Portraits Exhibit at LACMA last night.  I thought it would be one big PR stunt for Annie Liebowitz who is currently releasing a book.  However, I was pleasantly surprised as the portraits showed a great range since the magazine’s inception in the 1913 through today.  I have a calendar of these portraits, and the quote from Dorothy Parker that goes along with this Alexander Calder photo (above) is:

“i hate the office, it cuts into my social life”

How cool to think that Calder’s office was his studio, where he got to mess around with making mobiles all day long!

my NEW title is Cockney rhyming slang for “it’s all gone wrong”. But actually, it’s quite the the opposite, my friends. It’s all taken a right turn. It’s all sunshine and rosy goodness.

O-ism…owe it to Judy Chicago July 6, 2007

donnerparty1.jpg

The Donner Party is the centerpiece of a series based on “Oism”, a fictional cult invented by the artist. Supposedly founded by Annie O’Wooten in upstate New York in the mid-19th century, “Oism” trusts in reincarnation, the reverse passage of time, and a female divinity symbolized by the letter “O”. The installation’s twelve small cloth-covered wagons, arranged in a circular formation, are decorated with 27 tabletop sculptures created from thrift store finds, such as candy-colored place settings, Barbie dolls, toy cowboys, and a vacuum cleaner placed in the middle of a camp fire. Produced in the same collaborative spirit as Chicago’s The Dinner Party—which was made by 400 female artists—each sculpture in Shaw’s installation was created by a different artist, yet all including an abundance of “Oist” references.

Shaw’s made-up, snarky religion combining feminism, Mormonism, and “O” words, inspiration for his piece, Donner party at PS One, references Judy Chicago’s work. Each place setting at the room-sized table (made of covered wagons) is an artifact or sculptural homage to an O-ist—Yoko Ono, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Joseph Smith. Plus, a few random household appliances. Is this history rewritten? Perverse arts and crafts? An attack on Chicago?

MY OPINION: The Donner Party is the only thing worth seeing at P.S. 1.

I have known the theme for this year’s Mermaid Day Parade for some time now.  My delicious little iron mermaiden crew that I am part of has come up with a good one this year, but we have chose to keep you in suspense. We will not technically be Mermaids, but nautical all the same.  This will be my 7th year.  It’s tradition.  Like the 5 minute mini-tv webisodes that SONY is banking on, we will be angels on a mission for 1st place.  CONEY ISLAND, HERE WE COME!

AND….Look out for the future photos of our masks and the parade!

Do we need to see 33 people die tragically to realize that there are ways to prevent these kinds of massacres? Will it splinter the “new dems” to have this on the agenda? It’s always seemed obvious to me, that the minute you introduce firearms into a high intensity situation, it can become, well EXPLOSIVE, literally and figuratively. How many people in Iraq die each day, each week.

1. call a friend to say “what’s up, you up this spring day?”

2. don’t call shappy. he doesn’t respond to anything but shappy

3. search for perfect snack as offering: try kettle corn of backyard BBQ flavor and caramel drizzle variety, and pumpkin tasty:-D

4. pick a cute thought and meditate on it. think about the things you could be doing besides slowly waiting for death to become becoming. become becoming.

5. write a letter that starts:

Dear lennon,

This is what i would be rather doing today. Think on it. Do it.

6. Chew on whirled peas

7. Leave a chick pea in between the crack in the sidewalk of your favorite street, in your favorite city, at dusk, and count your steps to your next destination. Take that number, draw it in the air, and seal it with a pea.

Ono wrote this Snow piece:

Think that snow is Falling

Think that snow is falling everywhere all the time

When you talk to a person, think that snow is falling between you and that person

Stop conversing when you think that that person is covered in snow
